When You google the word "Long Island", it will prompt you to Long Island at U.S. However, if you scroll down it will show you one Long Island in beautiful Andamans. Iam writing down my memoir at Long Island.
Firstly, access to it is not so exciting. One can reach by road or by ferry from Port Blair Town. By ferry from Port Blair will take approx. 4 hours. The boat of DSS travels thrice a week from Port Blair. We opted the other means, for which, one has to travel by road to reach Middle Strait. From here catch a Ro-Ro craft to reach Baratang. From Baratang, head towards Rangat via Gandhi Ghat jetty. Take a diversion towards Bakultala and take the road towards Yerrata jetty. When we went, it was not in a shape to be called as "jetty". However, it does have a small boarding point. The last boat from here is @1600 hrs towards Long Island. It will take approx 1hr 15 min to reach Long Island.
Approach to Baratang Islands... |
Adjacent to jetty, there is a way towards Guest House of Forest Department. I must say, it is good as per local standards. However, only catch in Long Island is that you have to order every thing, including mineral water bottles ;) early else you will get it only the following day.
The view of Long Island is ecstatic. It is a small village/ sub-urban area with approx. 1200 ppl as its population. You can catch a dinghy, a local boat to go to Guitar island, Lalaji Bay, Merk Island or even Button Island. These islands are a must visit, if you like scenic beauty and have some time to spend at Long Island.
